The Business of Women Part Two: Homecoming

Walking into her unfamiliar lay, Samantha Rone greets her arrival by a new landlady, India Summer. She is met by Charlotte Stokely, an assistant who exudes confidence and dominance, showing unwavering loyalty to India and her kingdom. Before proceeding further into India's territory, Charlotte requests Samantha's authorization on a form, guaranteeing absolute confidentiality about everything experienced within this realm.

In admiration of her new environment and opulent lifestyle, Samantha obediently trails behind Charlotte. During their exploration, with Charlotte leading the way, it becomes apparent that beside India, Charlotte wields authority and her commands are unquestionable. They make their way back into the inner sanctums where they locate India engaged in an intense round of racquetball indoors.

After passing the document ceremoniously signed by Samantha, Charlotte boldly voices her cynical assessment of this fresh addition, labeling Samantha as nothing but a low-cost seductress. India, unsettled by Charlotte’s lack of respect, promptly rebukes her and instructs her to depart. Charlotte, swallowing her pride, dutifully returns to her tasks, narrating with disapproval to a displeased customer on the telephone.

In the presence of India and Samantha, following an abrupt interruption from India, Charlotte recounts the essential information to Samantha. Despite reluctant to mentor her successor, displayed through obvious reluctance, India calls the shots, leaving Charlotte no choice but to follow her directives. Experiencing escalating discontent towards her new counterpart, Charlotte showcases four portraits of women, one shrouded in black lace.

She divulges that these paintings represent individuals who once occupied her role, labeled now as departed or forsaken. Among them, the black-veiled portrait unveils Vanessa, formerly India's favored envoy turned adversary after defecting and enticing away some of India's clients with her. Spreading malicious gossip about their employer, discouraging Samantha, Charlotte illustrates the hardship of working under India's reign, warning Samantha to rethink her situation before it’s too late.

Eavesdropping on Charlotte's warning, India discloses her disappointment in Charlotte yet again and determines to undertake the task of enlightening Samantha herself. Despite Charlotte's plea for redemption, India disembodies her hopes, ordering her exile from her presence. Rendered submissive at India's mere command, Charlotte kneels to repent her errors.

Sensing a need for humility in both Charlotte and Samantha, India convenes them to her boudoir, casting their destinies into her single authoritative hand, for they are but pawns in her realm.
