A couple, Sherry and Ray, are having difficulties after their nephew, Ethan, comes to live with them due to his parents' demise. Ray notices Ethan's suspicious conduct, including his intense gazes and eerie demeanor, but Sherry consistently disregards his worries. Ray's suspicions deepen when they discover their smashed photos, yet Ethan nonchalantly blames the family pet for the destruction. Despite Ray's skepticism, Sherry continues to support Ethan over her husband, which strains their relationship. The tension spikes when the family pet dies mysteriously while under Ethan's care. Ray is convinced that Ethan played a part in the pet's death but Sherry, tired of Ray's accusations, takes Ethan's side. After Ray leaves a note declaring his departure, heartbroken Sherry finds solace in Ethan, who takes advantage of the situation to make advances on her, disguised as offering comfort. Could Ray have been right about Ethan's deception all along?
