Two step-sisters slouch at empty desks, Emma Starletto and Lily Larimar trading bored glances in the silent classroom. Their packs lie on the floor, no books in sight. A knock cuts the quiet. Sarah Vandella, their step-mother, leans in with a stern face. She marches straight inside, fires off about the lack of rules, and declares she’ll handle discipline herself. The girls bristle and try to talk over her, but Sarah lifts one hand and the room goes dead quiet. She points to two desks and snaps that they’d better bend over now.
